How to Write Content that Ranks in 2018

Quality content – the Holy Grail for content marketers and SEOs around the world. But how does Google define ‘quality content’ and how do you capitalise on something that is seemingly quite subjective?

Ever since Hummingbird dropped in 2013, the quest for content marketers everywhere has been to find that balance between writing content for SEO and writing content for the end user.

Hummingbird was a big shift for content writers. No longer would we be optimising for specific keywords. Instead, we would be relying on Google’s algorithm to understand the meaning behind the words we were writing.

The importance of strong SEO content

The importance of strong SEO content in the context of the internet as we know it today, cannot be understated. An estimated half of our global population are internet users, and with nearly 2 billion sites on the web, everyone wants a piece.

Search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo help users find what they need through the trillions of pages vying for their attention. They do so using complex algorithms in programs that crawl through the web to find the most relevant sites based on an individual’s search query.

By following some SEO fundamentals, you can significantly increase the chances of your site featuring high on the all-important search engine results page (SERP). According to Advanced Web Ranking, nearly half of all click-throughs go to pages with a Top 3 SERP ranking, and those are statistics that can’t be ignored.

Is PWAMP the future of our mobile-first world?

With the mobile-first index fast approaching, we wanted to take a look at some of the options available to webmasters when it comes to readying yourself for the switch to the mobile-first index.

Announced way back in November 2016, the mobile-first index will see Google shift from ranking websites based on their desktop content, to their mobile content. Whilst no official date has been set by Google for the change, Google’s Gary Illyes announced at SMX Advanced in Seattle back in June 2017 that this is likely to start rolling out in early 2018.
